THE SONY OPERA HOUSE SERIES
The Sony Opera House is a new mid-price series that draws on the extensive catalogues of Sony and BMG. The series is launched with twenty releases with future releases planned at regular intervals for later in 2009/10. Each release includes a booklet with a three-language synopsis [English / French / German]‚ full cast list and detailed track list.
The range of opera featured includes such enduring favourites as Carmen‚ Tosca and Rigoletto as well as rarities such as HÉrodiade and Guntram‚ and dramatic masterpieces such as Norma‚ Der fliegende HollÄnder and Otello; twentieth century opera includes Wozzeck and Die tote Stadt. Recordings feature a wealth of internationally acclaimed singers such as PlÁcido Domingo‚ Renata Scotto‚ Sherrill Milnes‚ Renato Bruson‚ RenÉe Fleming‚ Roberto Alagna and Ileana Cotrubas; renowned opera conductors include James Levine‚ Riccardo Muti‚ Erich Leinsdorf‚ Valery Gergiev and Pierre Boulez.
Many recordings appear for the first time at mid-price and all releases in the first phase are 2-CD sets housed in brilliant boxes. Eye-catching designs incorporate an important element or symbol relating to each opera which together creates a series identity in the context of a contemporary approach.
